Kaspar Stockalper had the Stockalper Palace built in Brig between 1651 and 1671.

Originally, the courtyard was intended as a transshipment point for the goods that were stored in the corridors under the arcades.

Peter von Stockalper, the great-grandfather of Kaspar von Stockalper, had the manor house built on the foundation walls of an older building around 1532.

Every Saturday, a weekly market is held in the centre of Brig in the morning, where producers from the region sell fresh vegetables, fruits, meat products and dairy products.
