Skiing and snowboarding on the Simplon Pass

In the Brig-Simplon region, you have two enchanting ski resorts to choose from. The Rosswald sun terrace and Rothwald/Wasenalp, which is popular with freeriders. Skiing is one of the most popular winter sports activities in Switzerland. It’s no wonder – the Valais offers skiers and snowboarders an incredibly large selection of ski resorts. If you’re having trouble deciding on one, Brig is the ideal starting point for ski days in the surrounding areas.

Rosswald

Rosswald is the perfect ski resort for families. Not only because you can get involved with the social programmes from morning to night and hop from one activity to the next, but also because you get to spend time with your family, because most of the holiday rentals are located directly on the ski slope and because there is a variety of slopes ranging from easy to difficult. Ski lessons are available for kids. Beginners start off by practising the stem turn in the Kids park [create and link] on the ‘magic carpet’ conveyor belt. Rosswald also happens to be a very affordable ski resort.

The Stafellift, which transports winter sports enthusiasts up to 2,600 metres above sea level, offers variety. Those who ski in Rosswald appreciate the stirrup lifts since every metre on the snow counts. If you need to unwind for a bit, head to one of the numerous sun terraces in the restaurants and chalets.

Last but not least, take a moment to admire the stunning view from Rosswald over the Rhone Valley to the Valais glaciers and Bernese Alps.

Rothwald/Wasenalp

The open larch forest and the shady slopes in Rothwald/Wasenalp are enough to get a freerider’s heart racing. Located north of the Simplon Pass, Rothwald/Wasenalp is in one of the snowiest regions in the Alps. Directly on the Simplon Pass road at the PostBus stop, you’ll find the first surface lift that takes you from 1,750 metres above sea level up to Bodmen, 2,220 metres above sea level. The second ski lift takes you up to the Chastelegg, where you have various downhill slopes to choose from.

The Rothwald/Wasenalp ski resort offers around 25 kilometres of slopes. In order to guarantee snow safety, artificial snow may be made where necessary. You can choose between easy, medium and difficult slopes, which are marked accordingly.
